blog 4-free theme

Pets: friend, family, comfort

If I go back to my childhood, to my earliest memories, there have always been dogs or cats present. Even when I talked to my grandma, she also remembered having grown up with a dog that was just hers.
Animals have always been very dear to me, they were never 'things' , I always thought of them as friends and even kind of like little siblings. The first dog I remember was RinTin and he was a huge and super smart German Shepard.
In the States we had Piba and Beto. Piba loved sunbathing and she could spend hours lying down by the pool. Beto on the other hand, couldn't stand hot weather and in the Summer he would often jump in the pool. He would also run through the sprinklers in the afternoon to cool down.
Last year, my friend (dog) Kenzo passed away. He was incredibly smart, loyal and just very unique. He made me feel safe, made me feel loved, made me feel important and he was loved and treated with dignity and respect until his very last breath.
After Kenzo passed away my grandma died and two weeks ago an aunt did. It has been hard to deal with all of this and my mom's dog Cacciolina, has helped a lot. We just hold her and we don't need to say anything and she hugs us and licks our hands or face. It's like she's saying: I know nothing anyone can say will make you feel better, but I am here for you...
I hope that when I have my own family, I have a dog to start my new life.

my favourite technological device

My Kindle

My favourite piece of technology is my Kindle. Well actually, there are other things that are useful and in my everyday life and that I like a lot but my Kindle has special value for me.
I bought my Kindle about 15 years ago. It's the first version and with Kindle Fire and the newest ones you can do lots of things because they're very similar to a Tablet, but I can't with mine. I have over a hundred books on it and my Kindle is not enabled for different alphabets so I can't have books in Japanese which is a shame, but well there is a reason why it's very important for me...
I bought my Kindle the first year I started working and had a contract. It was kind of expensive at the time but it was a dream come true to be able to have so many books in such a light device. It's much lighter than a lot of the books I have, and it meant having extensive knowledge at hand.
My Kindle gave me a sense of pride because I had made it possible with my own work. It also allowed me to carry my passion everywhere I went, without hurting my back!

blog 2- Your career/program choice

Why did you choose to study this?

I studied English Literature because the authors that I liked the most and that had the greatest impact in my life, wrote and write, in English. I feel I can connect to English as a language better than I can to Spanish. Another advantage is that I've always loved reading so studying something which involved doing a lot of reading, didn't seem terrible...

I honestly didn't give much thought as to what I could do with my degree after I graduated and my family was worried I would not be able to make enough money, but my mom gave me her support because I told her I felt that's where my path was.

At some point I actually wanted to study Law, which would have earned me more money, but I don't regret my choice even when the going gets tough.

instructions:
  • Write and explain why you chose to study what you do
  • what do you like about it the most?

A lifetime passion

A lifetime passion

As you can see, I've chosen an image of books because I feel they are an important part of who I am and have been with me since I was four years old.
When I was three years old, I travelled to the United States with my mom. I learned to speak English pretty fast and I learned to read soon after turning four.
One of the first books I read was The Little Prince and I haven't stopped reading ever since. When I was about 12 I began reading Shakespeare and that's when I decided that I'd study English Lit.
I'm 40 now and I'm still passionate about reading. There are of course other important things in my life but this time around, I just decided to tell you about this.

Howdy!

Hey there,

I'd like to welcome you to Blogs at Universidad de Chile. We use blogs here as a means to develop writing skills and also as way of getting to know each other a bit better. I hope that we can find out cool things about each other and that we can also realize that we're unique but all connected...
Best,
Catherine Morgado
